Traditional
methods of treatment for the aging neck have primarily included
face and neck lifting procedures. For selected patients, liposuction
can be a definitive treatment.
........................................................................................................................................................................... Neck Liposuction
Neck
liposuction can help to sharpen the angle between the neck
and jawline, thus defining facial features and enhancing appearance.
The
ideal patient is in good general health, has good skin tone and
elasticity, and a moderate amount of excess fat in the neck.
Liposuction
is not a skin tightening procedure, but a certain amount of tightening
will occur due to fibrosis and collagenesis which occurs beneath
the skin as a result of the procedure.
If
there is an excessive amount of very loose skin, neck liposuction
alone is unlikely to provide maximal benefit.
Choosing to undergo a Cosmetic procedure is very personal. Naturally
you have aims, goals and expectations with regard to the benefits
of cosmetic surgery. It is also very important for you to be fully
informed about, and understand the potential risks & complications
involved. Only then can you make your final decision.
During
your first consultation, Dr Bambit will take a thorough
medical and surgical history and carry out a general medical assessment.
She will then ask you what your main concerns are and what you wish
to achieve. She will carefully assess the area/s of your face/neck
that are of concern to you in order to determine whether you are
a suitable candidate for neck liposuction.
Treatment
recommendations will be tailored to your individual needs and desires.
Dr
Bambit will discuss the procedure and any alternatives in detail.
Neck
liposuction is carried out either alone or in combination with other
facial/neck procedures/treatments (for example, facial threads,
face lift, neck lift, fat transfer, fillers, chemical peel).
The
Procedure:
- No aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications (eg nurofen, naprosyn,
etc) or vitamin E for 2 weeks before treatment.
- Please have nothing to eat or drink for 4 hours prior to the scheduled
procedure, and no heavy meal the night before.
- We will pick you up from home and drop you back later.
- The procedure takes approximately 1 – 1 ½ hours, but
you will be at the clinic for approximately 5 hours.
- The procedure is carried out in the clinic under oral sedation and
local anaesthetic. (If combined with surgical face/neck lift, the
procedure will be carried out in a fully licensed operating theatre).
- A tiny incision is made just under the chin and then dilute local
anaesthetic is infused in the area of the neck which has been previously
marked.
- The excess fat is then suctioned using a special thin hollow metal
tube called a cannula, which is attached to a plastic syringe. The
fat is removed very gently and evenly.
- The incision site is covered with a small bandaid, and then a pressure
dressing is applied. This is to be worn constantly for one week,
and thereafter according to specific instructions.
- Your pulse, blood pressure and breathing will be monitored before,
during and after the procedure.
- You will remain at the clinic until you are fully awake and stable.
- You will experience mild to moderate soreness & discomfort for
24 – 48 hours, subsiding over the week. This is relieved by
oral analgesia.
- There will be moderate swelling and bruising for 7 – 10 days.
- You will be able to resume basic, gentle at home activities within
1 – 2 days.
- You should allow 7 days away from work and important social engagements.
- The final result will not show until 3 months.
- Please take Arnica tablets for 2 weeks before and 1 – 2 weeks
after the procedure.
- Antibiotics are given for a few days.
- No strenuous activity, eg heavy workouts, heavy lifting etc for
2 weeks, then gradually resume all normal activities.
- The procedure is very safe if carried out by an experienced surgeon.
Potential
risks/complications – very uncommon but must be mentioned:
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Nerve damage
- Irregular skin contours
- Perforation
“If you are considering neck liposuction I can certainly
guide and advise you. I want the result to be as attractive and
appropriate for you as possible. All cosmetic procedures have limitations.
Therefore, if for any reason I feel that I am unable to fulfill
your expectations I will tell you immediately. I look forward to
meeting with you to discuss this procedure.”
